Srinagar: Police on Friday said that it has recovered the illicit timber in a forest compartment of Khudi Mawar area of Handwara.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on a specific input about the smuggling/cutting of timber in forest compartment No. 25 of Khudi Mawar, a diligent police team from Handwara Police led by SHO Police Station Qalamabad under the supervision of SDPO Handwara rushed to the spot and seized five logs of Deadar (Himaliyan Cedar) measuring up to 22 CFT and arrested the accused persons identified as Salamdin Khatana S/o Laldin Khatana, Nazir Ah Khatana S/o Sartaj Khatana and Mohd Ramzan Wani S/o Gh Rasool Wani, all residents of Khudi Mawar involved in the commission of crime who on seeing the police party managed to flee from the spot.
Stating that the police has accordingly registered the cases vide FIR No. 68/2023 under relevant sections of law & investigation has also been initiated in the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement said that the drive against timber smugglers shall continue to ensure protection of green gold. Police on this occasion also resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal & anti-social activities.
