Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Budgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Budgam during naka checking at Gudsathoo near petrol pump Budgam intercepted two suspicious persons identified as Amar Chand S/o Murti Ram R/o Arnahali Rohan Nawan Shahr Punjab and Rohit Kumar S/o Parasholam Lal R/o Mahal Gailan Shaheed Bagat Singh Nagar Punjab who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully by the police party and later during their search, 9.3Kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in a bag was recovered from their possession.
Police in its statement further said that in a similar action the police during naka checking at Zabgul, intercepted a vehicle (Maruti 800) bearing Registration No JK01H-0343 with three persons on board identified as Tariq Ahmad Ganie S/o Ghulam Mohd Ganie and Tanvir Ahmad Ganie S/o Ghulam Mohd Ganie, both residents of Rakhwachoo and Bashir Ahmad Dar S/o Abdul Ahad Dar R/o Sholipora who also tried to flee from the spot but police party chased and apprehended them tactfully and during search, 10Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from their possession.
Stating that all the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, Police in it’s statement furthermore said cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations besides which further investigation has been also initiated .
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and resolved to act tough against the criminals as per law.
