NC’s Dr Jaffar Akhoon to head Kargil Autonomoud Hill Dev Council

Srinagar: National Conference and Congress have finalized a power-sharing deal in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council- Kargil with the former’s councillor Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhoon set to become head of the body for the first two-and-a-half years.
Addressing a joint news conference in Kargil, leaders from the NC and Congress disclosed that the post of chief executive councillor would be rotated between the two parties.
Nasir Munshi, the spokesperson for Congress said both the parties would have equal share in the council.
He said the CEC would be from the National Conference for the first two-and-a-half years and then from Congress for the remaining term.
“Two executive councilors would be from each party in the council to ensure equal representation,” he said, adding that one of the executive councillor positions reserved for principal religious minorities would be from NC for the first term.
The Congress spokesperson said the departments assigned to the chairman and executive councillors would be equally shared between both parties,
He said Congress and NC are committed to providing an effective and sustainable council that works for the betterment, development, and welfare of the people of Kargil.
Munshi further said that after the formation of the executive council, a common minimum program (CMP) would be drafted and formulated. “The CMP, developed in consultation with the party’s high command, will outline shared goals, priorities, and policies of the coalition for the benefit of Kargil, ”he said.
Senior NC leader Qamar Ali Akhoon said Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhoon, councillor of Thasgam Thuvina constituency, would be NC’s candidate for the post of CEC for the first term.
Dr. Jaffar, a former chief medical officer, is brother of Qamar Ali Akhoon.
The election for the post of CEC is scheduled to be held today
