Sopore faces power outages, residents, commercial units hit

Sopore : People in Sopore have complained unscheduled power curtailment is affected residents and commercial establishments.
President Industrial Estates, Sopore, Javeed Ahmed Bhat said that long power cuts have hit Industrial Estate causing them losses.
“Due to massive curtailments, 80% of the industrial business is going to shut within days. Industries get 2-3 hours of electricity despite having hotline”, he said.
He said the PDD comes up with an excuse of less generation and more demand every year. “To demand 24×7 electricity is a dream; we just demand regular and scheduled power supply to carry businesses,” he said.
Similarly, domestic consumers complained about unscheduled power cuts.
“Our area is covered with smart meters yet we are facing long power cuts. If the department is hell bent on curtailments, it should be minimum so that people don’t suffer”, said residents.
Executive Engineer Power Development Department, Sopore, Javeed Ahmed said that people are suffering due to power curtailments, saying there is less supply.
“Currently there is 50 percent and less availability of power supply”, he said and added a curtailment schedule will be issued soon
