Jammu: A Drug Awareness Programme was on Friday organised here on Friday under Civic Action Programme at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Miran Sahib and a drug awareness rally was also conducted along with students of New Gandhi Memorial Public School Miran Sahib to spread awareness on drug abuse.
According to a statement issued from District Police Headquarters Jammu Ramnish Gupta, SP Hqrs Jammu was the chief guest of the event. Other than him SHO PS Miran Sahib Inspr Bopinder Singh and Principal of Govt Girls Hr Sec School Miran Sahib Ashok Chopra, along with guest speakers from GDC Bishnah Prof Asha Singh and lecturer English Ms Madhu of SIRAS School Bishnah and various other staff members of the schools were also present in the event.
Speaking on the occassion SP Hqrs Jammu Ramnish Gupta drew the attention of the participant of the event towards the effects of drug addiction, and the policies pusued to curb it besides laws and police actions against the suppliers. He also enlightened the participants on drug menace and motivated them to aware their families and surrounding people, also, reminding the people that it is the duty of every citizen to contribute towards drug-free society and help Police to curb smuggling/ menace of drugs from the society. He further said that police is committed towards public welfare and urged the students to inform police about any illegal activity in the area. He called upon the students had to strongly come forward to make the area free from the menace of drug abuse. The guest speakers also put forth their valuable suggestions and out of the box solutions to deal with this increasing menace of drug addiction.
Present on the occassion the SP Hqrs Jammu, Ramnish Gupta advised the students to channelize their energy in sporting activities to make their future better. He said that sports is the best way to defeat the spread of drug menace reminding the students that it not just keeps the physical health of a person well but also brings more mental robustness and also makes youth disciplined in real sense . Asking student to enthusiastically participate in the sports he asked the students should to take part actively in sports. He also said that the journey of any addiction begins with the “use” and develops into “abuse” and very quickly graduates to becoming an addiction. In the end he asked students to be aware of their surroundings and come forward to actively contribute towards a drug free society and help Police to curb trafficking of drugs.
Moreover, the program culminated with distribution of certificate and consolation prizes. Moreover an impressive rally by the students of both the schools was also taken out from NGM Public School, Miran Sahib to Maraliyan Morh, amongst positive slogans being raised by those students against drug addiction.
