Srinagar: Sanchar Saathi portal (https:// www. sancharsaathi. gov.in) facilitating blocking/ unblocking and traceability of lost or stolen mobile devices launched by Union Minister of Communications Ashwini Vaishnaw on 17th May this year has Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system as one of it’s constituents of Sanchar Saathi portal which has been undertaken by DoT for addressing security, theft and other concerns including reprogramming of mobile handsets.
According to a statement issued from Police Media Centre, PHQ J&K Srinagar, the Sancharsaathi portal/CEIR system facilitates users of mobile phones to check genuineness of mobile phones by using the IMEI verification Know Your Mobile (KYM) Functions.
KYM is a facility to provide information about the IMEI of mobile phone to the general public or user of the mobile phone. Public can make use of this information before purchase of new or second-hand mobile phone.
The following options may be used for the KYM/ IMEI Verification facility as SMS to 14422 from Mobile Phone; the user will send sms [KYM <IMEI No.>] to 14422 to get information about a particular IMEI; In response, the user gets the details for the IMEI that is Brand Name, Model Name, Manufacturer and Device Type along with the status of IMEI i.e. IMEI is Valid or Invalid or Blocked etc. Through Web Portal or Mobile App; User can visit (https://www.sancharsaathi.gov.in) or CEIR module or alternatively can use Mobile App (KYM App) and will enter the IMEI number to get information about a particular IMEI. In response, the user gets the details of the IMEI i.e. Brand Name, Model Name, Manufacturer and Device Type along with the status of IMEI i.e. IMEI is Valid or Invalid or Blocked etc.
