Jammu : Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu on Tuesday hosted Gulam Ali Khatana, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha for an interaction with the faculty, officers and staff at its state-of-the-art permanent campus at Jagti.
The session was graced by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics, IIM Jammu, Cmdr Kesavan Baskkaran, CAO, IIM Jammu, Dr. Nitin Upadhyay, Chairperson, MBA, Dr. Ateeque Shaikh, Chairperson, IPM, along with all faculty, officers, and staff of the Institute. The interaction was followed by an engaging discussion with the faculty, officers, and staff of the Institute.
Gulam Ali Khatana, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha emphasized on the significance of empowering the youth of the region with management skills, acknowledging the pivotal role that institutions like IIM Jammu play in the development and progress of the rural areas of the U.T of Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated the need to come together and urged the IIM Jammu fraternity to work in the interest of the U.T of Jammu and Kashmir and its brighter future by empowering the youth in areas of management, entrepreneurship, and skill development. He further mentioned that the Management education is a key driver of economic growth and prosperity and emphasized his constant commitment in supporting such noble initiatives.
Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, gave an overview into the academic, research and various other initiatives of IIM Jammu. In his address, he also mentioned about the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Skill Development (CEISD) instituted at IIM Jammu with a motto to work towards the promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation at the grass-root level across the length & breadth of Jammu & Kashmir. During his address, he mentioned about IIM Jammu setting up the first “The Diversity Cell” in India in association with the Dalit India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and being inaugurated by then Former President of India, Ramnath Kovind, on 9th June 2022.He reiterated that the Institute believes in nurturing a culture of diversity and inclusion at IIM Jammu, ensuring that every individual, regardless of background, has the opportunity to excel.
Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics IIM Jammu, provided insights into the institution’s commitment to regional development, particularly in the areas surrounding the IIM Jammu campus. He emphasized the vital role that IIM Jammu plays in contributing to the growth and well-being of nearby regions. He stressed on the need for creating a positive impact on the communities around the nearby regions near the campus. He mentioned that IIM Jammu aims to be a catalyst for regional development, providing resources, expertise, and opportunities to uplift the local economy.
The interaction of Gulam Ali Khatana with IIM Jammu fraternity symbolized a significant step towards strengthening ties, fostering collaboration, and aligning efforts to empower the youth and promote development in the U.T of Jammu and Kashmir.
