12 Panchayats declared polythene free, 2 Swachata Champions nominated in each GP

Baramulla: As part of ongoing SANKALP SAPTAH being observed in 500 Aspirational blocks across the country, on Thursday Swachta Sankalp was observed in all 24 panchayats of block Singhpora.
A slew of activities were carried out on the occasion in each panchayat where people from all walks of life enthusiastically participated and resolved to keep their villages clean and green.
Swachta Shivirs (Swachta meetings) were conducted with PRIs, members of Self Help Groups and Youth clubs, frontline officials of health, Jal Shakti, ICDS, NRLM, Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, senior citizens, religious leaders and auqaf committee members.
The meetings deliberated upon various aspects of cleanliness and ways to sustain ODF Plus Model status of villages. Participants were briefed about waste types generated in villages and infrastructure established for its safe disposal.
12 panchayats including Khanpeth, Matipora, Chainbal A, Mirgund A, Diver Yakhmunpora, KP Payeen A, Duslipora, Gund Ibrahim A, KP Sari, B Arampora, Mirchimer and Hanjiwara B were declared polythene free through gram sabha resolutions.
To discourage usage of polythene in these panchayats, khadi bags locally manufactured by NRLM SHGs were distributed to participants. 10KG of polythene was seized and Rs. 1000 fine was realised from commercial establishments during anti-polyethylene drives conducted by specially constituted panchayat level teams.
On the occasions, 19 segregation sheds, 6 Community Sanitary Complexes, 10 leach pits and 4 community soak pits were inaugurated by concerned Sarpanches in presence of panchayat level officials.
At GP Khanpeth, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Baramulla Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat and and BDO Singhpora Mohammad Shafait in presence of teaching staff of GP Khanpeth administered Swachhta pledge to hundreds of participants, felicitated Swach Grahis and Swachta champions and later inaugurated SBM-G assets.
In each panchayat, 2 youth were nominated as Swachta champions who will be disseminating Swachta messages in their respective panchayats, briefing public about solid-liquid waste management and effective use of infrastructure created under SBM-G. Swachta champions will be trained at block level through specially designed training module so as to enable them to effectively propagate swachta message.
80 Swach Grahis (Eco guards) of 24 panchayats were felicitated by the chief guests in the events to encourage them to carry forward Swachta activities on mission mode.
Later cleanliness drives were conducted in government institutions, water bodies, roads, drains, streets, playgrounds etc. Swachta rallies were also organised in each panchayat.
