Saurabh Bhagat reviews status of skilling of youth identified under B2V, MTMP

Srinagar: Commissioner Secretary, Skill Development Department, Saurabh Bhagat, on Thursday chaired a meeting at Civil Secretariat here to review the Skill training of 85000 Youth identified under Back to Village and My Town my Pride initiatives.
The meeting was attended by Mission Director, JK Skill Development Mission; District Development Commissioners (All); Director Skill Development Department (SDD); Additional Secretary, SDD, Principal, Food Craft Institute, Jammu, All concerned Principals / Superintendents of Government Polytechnics/ITIS Jammu/Kashmir. Besides, outstation officers attended the meeting through video conferencing.
While chairing the meeting, Saurabh Bhagat held a comprehensive review of various schemes and initiatives undertaken by the department. He assessed progress, achievements, and challenges faced by JKSDM to empower the youth of Jammu and Kashmir with relevant skills and employment opportunities.
He took a detailed review of skill training of youth district/trade wise by the concerned departments identified under B2V4/ MTMP.
Highlighting the need for working on a single government approach, he emphasized upon the officers to maintain convergence with other departments for bridging the skill gap and enhancing employability avenues for the youth of J&K. He said that we should have a unified data on districts which should go to all agencies, thus preventing overlapping of data.
Commissioner Secretary asked the DCs to come up with District Skill Committee meeting every month and re-examine their plans in view of the demands arising from new schemes like Vishwakarma, Jal Mitra, PM Kaushal. He said that regular monthly reports will get us an idea of what is happening at the district level and take corrective steps accordingly.
Saurabh Bhagat said that DCs should come up with creative programmes and utilise their resources effectively. He said that DCs should get more training centres registered in their respective districts as the training and skilling has attained a huge significance at the national level.
He also elucidated that it is the endeavour of government to upskill youth in high value skills so that they are able to seize employment in any part of the globe. He urged the educated youth to come forward for gaining rightful skills in the best of the skill institutes for earning their livelihood in a respectable manner.
Commissioner Secretary also said that government will provide more funds to the districts for having block, tehsil and district level skill melas and placement fairs.
While calling for expediting the process for training of people, Saurabh Bhagat said that DCs should have a clear idea of how many people have been sponsored for training and how many have been trained and how many were certified.
He also asked the DCs to create a repository of trained people so that we fine tune our MES system and districts should also broaden their skill training base for better outcomes.
Commissioner Secretary also reviewed the progress on PM Kusum, domestic solar roop top solar plants and asked the Deputy Commissioners to hold camps in their respective districts to create maximum awareness regarding these schemes so that people can take due benefits out of them.
