President Murmu to visit KU on its 20th annual Convocation

Over 53000 qualified candidates to be conferred with degrees; 3,20 candidates to receive gold and silver medals

Srinagar : President of India, Droupadi Murmu, is set to visit the Kashmir University on October 11, 2023, where she will serve as the chief guest for the institution’s 20th annual Convocation.
The event will witness President Murmu conferring degrees to over 53,000 candidates from various academic disciplines. As per the schedule, President Murmu will also deliver the Convocation address to the assembly of graduates and dignitaries at the Convocation Complex of the University of Kashmir, Hazratbal, Srinagar.
The grand event is scheduled to mark the culmination of the academic journey for students who have completed their courses from 2021 to mid-2023. As per the official figures a staggering 53,523 candidates will be conferred their degrees during this momentous occasion.
Among these recipients, 46,812 will be awarded undergraduate degrees, 5,509 will receive postgraduate degrees, while 572 will be conferred with doctoral degrees (Ph.D.), and an additional 10 candidates will earn Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degrees. On the occasion, around 320 students, comprising 210 girls and 110 boys, will be honoured with gold and silver medals, along with cash prizes.
The gold medals will be distributed to 283 students, including 189 girls and 94 boys, while sponsored gold medals will be awarded to 21 students, featuring 13 girls and two boys. Moreover, sponsored silver medals will be presented to four candidates including two boys and girls each while the sponsored cash prizes will be granted to 12 students including six boys and six girls.
Preparations for the Convocation are in full swing, with the full dress rehearsal scheduled for October 7, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Convocation Complex of the University. As per the University notification, all the registered candidates are expected to participate in the rehearsal after collecting their Special Identity Cards and robes from dedicated desks established for this purpose in the new administration block. “These desks will be operational from 10:00 AM onwards on October 7,” it reads. The University notification states that specific details regarding transportation, seating arrangements, and other logistical matters for the Convocation will be communicated separately by the respective committees involved in organizing the event. “Students and attendees are advised to regularly check the University’s official website at www.kashmiruniversity.net for further updates,” the notification reads.
The University of Kashmir has already postponed the exams slated for October 6 and 10 of this year. “October 6 exams were postponed in view of the Friday following while the October 10 exams have been postponed keeping in view the security reasons as the President is visiting the campus next day,” an official said
