SMC organises Mega Event at SK Park to Celebrate Gandhi Jayanti

Special Health Camp organised, free medicines given to Safai Mitras
Srinagar : To commemorate the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and recognize the invaluable efforts of the Safai Mitras (sanitation workers) in maintaining cleanliness in the City, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday organized a grand event at Sher-e-Kashmir(SK) Park on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The programme was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad as the Chief Guest.
The event was held under the theme of “Swachhata Hi Seva” aimed to acknowledge and appreciate the dedicated Safai Mitras(sanitation workers) for their relentless hard work and significant contribution towards the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Campaign). The highlight of the event was the provision of health check-ups for the Safai Mitras, ensuring their well-being and emphasizing their importance in the community.
During his address, the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar expressed his admiration and gratitude towards the Safai Mitras for their tireless efforts in keeping the Srinagar City clean and clear of garbage. He recognized their unwavering commitment and lauded their role as unsung heroes in achieving the vision of a Clean J&K. He further applauded their dedication and perseverance, acknowledging that their work has a direct impact on the overall well-being and quality of life for the residents of the City.
The DC lauded the SMC for organizing the event that served as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness and encourage citizens to actively participate in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He said the programme is aimed to inspire individuals and communities to take responsibility for maintaining a clean and green environment, ultimately striving for a Clean and garbage-free Srinagar.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner, presented certificates of recognition to the Safai Mitras as a token of appreciation, acknowledging their outstanding contributions in the cleanliness of the City and hygiene of the Citizens of Srinagar. The certificates symbolize the gratitude and admiration towards these unsung heroes who diligently carry out their duties, often in challenging conditions.
The mega event was also participated by Joint Commissioner, SMC, Syed Abu Qasim, Chief Sanitation Officer, Nazir Ahmad Baba and other Officers and Officials of SMC who extended their gratitude to Deputy Commissioner for gracing the event as the Chief Guest and for his encouraging words that uplifted the spirits of the Safai Mitras.
They also unanimously said that the SMC remains committed to working hand in hand with the community to create a sustainable and hygienic environment, besides encouraging every citizen to embrace the principles of cleanliness and make Cleanliness a way of life.
