Srinagar: Police on Thursday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and Awantipora police districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Kulgam, a police party led by Incharge Police Post Mirbazar during naka checking near Petrol Pump at Nippora intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration No. PB07AT-9499 ridden by two persons identified as Mohd Saleem Ganie S/o Gull Mohd Ganie R/o DK Pora Shopian and Balbir Singh S/o Sheer Singh R/o Chenani Pullmanda, Udhampur and during searches recovered 4.5kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in a Nylon bag from their possession following which the accused were arrested and motorcycle used in commission of crime was also seized.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action in Awantipora, a Police Party led by Incharge Police Post Reshipora arrested one drug peddler at Kawani Brabandina crossing identified as Abdul Salam Dar S/o Munawa Dar R/o Kawani Awantipora and during searches recovered 380 grams of Charas like substance the possession of the saof accused who was immediately shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that police accordingly registered cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and took up the investigation, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and assured them to act tough against the criminals as per law.
