Kathua : Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rakesh Minhas on Thursday chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to discuss the measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district.
The meeting discussed in detail issues related to the incidence of drug addiction, besides measures taken by law enforcement agencies to curb the menace.
The DC called upon the Assistant Drug Controller to keep a close tab on footages in CCTVs installed in pharmaceutical stores and their sale data to prevent over the counter sale of psychotropic drugs.
While reviewing the enforcement scenario, the DC asked AC Drugs Kathua to constitute teams involving Stakeholder departments to keep a regular check on illegal sale of drugs not meant for over the counter sale.
The ADCs and SDMs were asked to formulate a comprehensive plan to launch a special public outreach program to sensitize people of minimum 5 Panchayats about the drug menace in one month. He further called for staying vigilant against illegal trafficking of Drugs and other banned substances in their territorial jurisdictions.
The DC impressed upon CMO to submit the status of registered De-Addiction centres functioning in the District and ensure these are adhering to the laid down guidelines. He further directed CMO to submit monthly data of patients who have availed de addiction treatments in de-addiction centers.
The DC enjoined upon the stakeholder departments to take up aggressive awareness drives, especially targeting vulnerable groups so as to bring them back to the mainstream.
Earlier, SSP Kathua Shivdeep Singh Jamwal informed the meeting that police authorities have been observing zero tolerance on illegal use of drugs and 102 FIRs have been registered and 132 persons have been arrested in the current calendar year.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADC, Ranjeet Singh; Dy Cmdt. BSF, CMO, CEO, APO, Tehsildar Hiranagar, Tehsildar Marheen, and other officers from civil administration.
