Kishtwar: Allegations and reports have surfaced regarding the alleged illegal dumping of muck and material by the contractors associated with the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) for Package 5.
This purported activity is said to be taking place during late-night hours in the Mughalmaidan area. Such actions, if proven true, would constitute a serious violation of environmental laws and would be contrary to established guidelines for muck disposal.
In response to these allegations, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Devansh Yadav has constituted an Inquiry Committee to investigate and verify the claims of illegal muck dumping.
As per the order, the committee comprises SDM Chatroo, Tehsildar Mughalmaidan, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Kishtwar, District Pollution Officer Kishtwar, Station House Officer (SHO) Chatroo. The inquiry Committee will assess the accuracy of these claims and will ascertain if any environmental laws have been violated. Additionally, the committee will recommend appropriate penalties and actions as per the relevant laws and procedures.
The committee is expected to complete its investigation and submit its report within 15 days from the date of the order.
The initiative underscores the commitment of the authorities to uphold environmental regulations and ensure that any violations are swiftly addressed. The responsible parties will be held accountable for their actions.
Meanwhile NHIDCL has been directed to stop works where such muck disposal is occurring.
