Doda: Deputy Commissioner Doda, Vishesh Mahajan, on Wednesday conducted a whirlwind tour of Khellani Block and conducted surprise inspections of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Trauma Hospital and under construction 1.5 KM tunnel on NH244.
At GHSS Khellani, DC Mahajan checked the attendance record, Mid Day Meal and other essential records of the institution. He also interacted with the students and the staff of the institution. He directed the CEO to produce the record of leaves of the Principal and of those not available in the school. The purpose of the visit was to assess the overall condition of the schools and ensure that all necessary facilities are provided to the students. The DC encouraged the teachers to focus on teaching methodologies and gave valuable suggestions to improve the learning environment. The Deputy Commissioner also motivated the students to actively participate in learning activities, use smartphones and the technology to clear their doubts in their subjects and maintain discipline within the school premises and in their lives.
Later, the DC inspected Khellani Tunnel to have a firsthand appraisal of the progress of work. He inspected the East and West Portal of the tunnel and instructed the engineers to expedite the work so that the tunnel is commissioned within the stipulated time. It was informed by the GM NHIDCL, NS Gill that more than 65% of the work on the 1.5 Kilometre Khellani tunnel is complete and is likely to be dedicated to the public by the end of January 2024.
The DC emphasized the quality & timely completion of the ambitious project. The tunnel is an important part of the prestigious alternate National Highway 244, which shall considerably reduce the travel distance from the region with a comfortable drive towards the capital cities. The alternate NH 244 will also benefit in the socio-economic development of the region apart from boosting tourism in the District.
