Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Kulgam during Patrolling at Poniwah Chowk intercepted a suspicious person identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat R/o of Pniwah, who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully and during search, 4Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in a Nylon bag was recovered from his possession.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similar action a police party led by SHO Police station Qazigund at a specific checkpoint established at Levdoora intercepted a person identified as Soeyb Khan S/o Liyaqat Khan R/o Wazir Gunj UP, who after noticing the police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during search, 3Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in a nylon bag was recovered from his possession.
Stating that both the accused persons were arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody and the cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides which further investigation too was initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society and assured people that steps are being taken to curb this menace from the society.
