Jammu: Social Welfare Department has organised special camps across the district to help the applicants of the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS) Pension Scheme, which provides financial assistance to the elderly, widows, destitute and persons with disabilities. The camps aim to facilitate the applicants in completing their documents and verifying their eligibility for the scheme.
Deputy Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya is keeping a close eye on the day-to-day progress of these camps and has ordered that they be treated as a top priority. He visited one such camp at Parade Ground on Monday and spoke with the public. He has instructed the camp officials to assist the public with full sincerity in the spirit of public service.
According to the department, there were around 17,800 applications pending due to deficiency of documents at the applicant’s end at the beginning of the special campaign. The camps have been attended by thousands of participants, resulting in a sharp decline in the number of pendencies from 17,800 to roughly around 7,500. The department is not withholding any eligible application and upon full verification, applications are being approved instantly.
The camps are being organised tehsil-wise and block-wise at 23 locations across Jammu district from September 14 to September 21. Each Block Development Officer office is hosting these camps, where the staff of the Social Welfare Department is providing guidance and assistance to the applicants. The tehsil-wise camps are being held at Parade Ground Jammu, Tehsil Office Gole, Panchayat Ghar Nadora, Panchayat Ghar Jagti and Panchayat Ghar Dansal.
The Social Welfare Department has appealed to the eligible persons to avail the benefit of these camps and complete their documents as soon as possible. The camps are running between 11 am and 4 pm in specified locations. The last date of the camp is September 21. Further information about these camps can be obtained by contacting the respective tehsil or BDO office.
