Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested six gamblers in Kulgam and also seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that acting on specific inputs about gambling activities at a public place at Akhran, a police party headed by IC PP Mirbazar raided the gambling site and arrested six gamblers identified as Mohd Younis Machoo S/o Wali Mohd Machoo R/o Akhran, Mohd Ishaq Shan S/o Mohd Maqbool Shan R/o Akhran, Lateef Ahmad Sofi S/o Bashir Ahmad Sofi R/o Wanpoh, Altaf Ahmad Dar S/o Gull Mohd Dar R/o Battachloo Kulgam, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani S/o Mohd Afzal Wani R/o Monghal Furrah and Ajaz Ahmad Shan S/o Abdul Rehman Shan R/o Nowpora on the spot, adding therein that police also seized stake money of Rs. 10,000/-, 6 Mobile Phones and playing cards from the possession of the above named accused.
Police in its statement further said that all the accused have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody, adding therein that cases under relevant sections of law have been also registered at Police Station Qazigund besides which further investigation has been also initiated into the case.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police warned that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and subsequently appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
