Budgam: In a remarkable initiative aimed at fostering awareness and promoting societal well-being, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam, in collaboration with the Human Rights & Anti-Corruption Forum (J&K Chapter), Civil and Police Administration, Khan Sahib and Government Degree College Khan (GDC) Sahib, Budgam on Wednesay organized a transformative awareness program on ‘Drug Abuse and Domestic Violence’.
The event was organised at GDC, Khan Sahib, Budgam and witnessed the presence of distinguished guests, community leaders and students.
The event commenced with a grand inauguration by Khalil Ahmad Choudhary, Principal District and Sessions Judge (Chairman DLSA), Budgam, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. The chief guest and other guests were warmly received by Nargis Bano, Principal GDC, Khan Sahib, Budgam, who also presented a formal Welcome Address.
The gathering also included Nargis Bano, Principal of Government Degree College Khan Sahib, Jahangir Ahmad Bakshi, Secretary DLSA, Budgam; Malik Tariq, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Khansahib Budgam; Ghulam Mohi-ud-din, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Khan Sahib, Budgam and Resource persons Insha Hassan, Councillor, Drug De-Addiction Centre, Budgam, Mohammad Yousaf Akash and Majeed Masoor.

The chief guest expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all participants and emphasized the pivotal role that awareness programs like these play in transforming society. He urged everyone to carry forward the knowledge and insights gained from the event and actively work towards eradicating drug abuse and domestic violence from their communities.
He in his presidential address emphasized that education is our greatest weapon against the darkness of Drug Abuse. The knowledge and awareness imparted here Wednesday will serve as a beacon of hope for those who are struggling with addiction and for those who may be at risk. It is through knowledge that we empower our youth to make informed decisions and are in a position to say “No to Drugs”, and lead healthier lives.
He further stressed that let us not forget the insidious nature of domestic violence. Behind closed doors, it lurks as a silent monster, affecting countless lives. Our gathering today is a testament to our commitment to break the silence.
Malik Tariq SDM, Khan Sahib in his opening remarks stated that the battle against substance abuse and Domestic Violence cannot be fought in isolation. It necessitates a collaborative effort involving policymakers, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and civil society.
The program’s focal point was the enlightening presentations delivered by a panel of resource persons and the active participation of students, who proved to be attentive and enthusiastic learners.
The resource persons, experts in the fields of drug abuse and domestic violence, provided comprehensive insights into these critical issues plaguing society today. Their presentations covered various aspects, including prevention, intervention, and support mechanisms for victims.
