Srinagar : Amar Singh College Srinagar, renowned for its commitment to excellence in education, played host to an online event on Tuesday, as part of the Digital India Week celebrations.
The event was held under the auspices of the Department of Computer Applications and featured an enlightening online lecture by Ajaz Syed, Sr. Consultant at Jammu and Kashmir IT Department.
The session was presided over by Principal, Amar Singh College, Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir.
The Principal’s lecture delved into the phenomenal growth and extensive use of e-services within the Jammu and Kashmir. He began by highlighting the evolution of online services, citing that in 2019, there were merely 35 online services available in J&K. Remarkably, as of 2023, the J&K boasts a staggering 1027 online services, signifying a significant leap in digital governance.
Of particular note was his emphasis on the Higher Education Department’s involvement in this digital transformation. Out of the 102 online services, an impressive 45 services are directly benefiting the Higher Education Department. These services have streamlined administrative processes, enhanced accessibility, and significantly improved the overall educational experience.
During the lecture, Ajaz showcased the ease of use of these online services, demonstrating their user-friendly interfaces and their role in simplifying interactions between citizens and government agencies. He also elaborated on how these services have been instrumental in enhancing the overall quality of life for the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a remarkable achievement, Ajaz revealed that Jammu and Kashmir has been ranked as the number one J&K in the entire country for effectively implementing e-services. This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the government and its partners to harness technology for the betterment of the region.
The online event was attended by around 50 students both in online mode as well as in the seminar hall of the department of computer applications.
The event showcased the pivotal role that technology and e-services play in transforming the governance landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. It was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the government, educational institutions, and the IT department in ensuring a brighter, digitally empowered future for the J&K.
Dr. Basharat Shameem, Assistant Professor, Department of English moderated the event. Dr. Gurdip Singh Sodi, Head, Department of Computer Applications, coordinated the event with support from other faculty members of the department.
