“Be the co-owners of the Student’s Learning Journey”, says Vice Chancellor IUST

Awantipora : The Islamic University of Science and Technology celebrated Teacher’s Day with great enthusiasm and fervour here on Tuesday that witnessed an overwhelming participation from faculty members, students, and scholars.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office IUST here, on the occasion of Teacher’s day, Vice Chancellor, IUST, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo paid rich tributes to the teachers for their contribution and commitment. He said that nothing surpasses a teacher’s influence in modelling a student’s personality and emphasized that in the face of challenging times like Covid-19, teachers demonstrated exemplary commitment and continued teaching and learning despite all odds. Discussing about NEP-2020, he said that the policy is transformative and the essence of it is allowing students freedom to develop a well-rounded personality, as it affords interdisciplinary learning. He said that at IUST a number of initiatives have been already taken in this regard, such as introduction of skilling courses, courses in AI/ ML and Design your Degree programme whereby the students would choose their courses based on their inclination and talent. He welcomed the new students and urged them to work hard and set a high standard of excellence and think innovative. He urged teachers to be the co-owners of the Student’s Learning Journey and nurture creativity and curiosity among them.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Manzoor Ahmad Malik, welcomed the new students and explained them different facilities available at IUST for their enriching and productive learning. He also lauded the role of teachers in the making of a progressive country.
Dean Research, Prof A H Moon said that teaching is a prophetic tradition and said that teachers have a tremendous responsibility towards nation building. Addressing the students, he said that inquisitiveness among students is a virtue and said that at IUST research directed towards societal concerns is pursued. Dean Outreach, Prof Lily Want said that in face of information explosion, the role of a teacher has only expanded and they have a greater responsibility in steering their students towards excellence and imbibe in them good values and ethics.
Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal said that teachers are role models for their students and society places greater responsibility on them.
The programme was coordinated by HoD Islamic Studies, Dr Afroze Bisati in collaboration with Dean of Students, Dr Asifa Baba. Meanwhile, the university is also organizing an induction program for newly admitted students from September 4 to 11, 2023 to acquaint them with the university’s academic culture, mentorship program and university resources.
