Kishtwar : Famber Trek, a remarkable outdoor adventure, reached a triumphant conclusion on September 4th, 2023. This exceptional trek was meticulously organized by the District Administration Kishtwar in collaboration with the Sub Divisional Administration Chhatroo, Kishtwar Development Authority and Directorate of Tourism Jammu, with the invaluable oversight of Dr. Devansh Yadav , Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar.
The Famber Trek commenced on the 2nd of September, embarking from Khowra Chhatroo, and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 100 trekkers, predominantly hailing from the local communities of Kishtwar and Bhaderwah. Notably, the trek welcomed participants of all ages, with master Basit, a 13-year-old enthusiast, representing the youngest trekker, while Abdul Rashid proudly joined as the eldest trekker.
The trek was ceremoniously flagged off by Shokat Hayat Mattoo, SDM Chhatroo, in the presence of Tasleem Wani, BDO Chhatroo, and Parvaiz Ahmed, SHO Chhatroo.
The trek was also graced by the company of SDM Chhatroo and Tehsildar Kishtwar, Umar Muneeb, who provided invaluable support and guidance to the trekkers throughout their journey. Besides, CEO ,Kishtwar Development Authority Dr Rishi Sharma provided the necessary logistic support in making the trek a success and the locals besides the Social activists like Maqbool Ahmed among others also gave their efforts, which was instrumental in reaching this remarkable milestone.
Over the course of three days, the intrepid participants traversed a challenging path, which included awe-inspiring locations such as Hafthalu, Dugada, Matti, and the breathtaking Famber Valley. On the second day, the contingent ventured to Ashish Kain and returned to Famber Valley, further enhancing their exploration of this scenic region. The trek culminated on the third day as the trekkers made their way back from Famber Valley to the starting point, passing through the magnificent Bari Nallah.
This trek underscores the District Administration’s unwavering commitment to promoting the discovery of the unexplored gems nestled within the pristine landscapes of Kishtwar district. Kishtwar has earned a reputation for hosting numerous high-altitude treks including the renowned Brammah Valley trek, in recent years.
A professional team recently conquered the formidable Brahammah trek within the Dachhgam Kishtwar National Park, solidifying the district’s standing as a premier destination for trekking enthusiasts.
Over the past one year, the District Administration Kishtwar under the visionary guidance of Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav IAS, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has been actively engaged in sending numerous local youths from these remote areas to participate in Tourism Skill Development workshops to enhance, upgrade and expose their talent in the sector. These workshops are conducted at various premier institutes across Jammu and Kashmir, including the prestigious Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports in Pahalgam.
In addition to these commendable initiatives, the adventure tourism activities organised by Administration have emerged as a pivotal force in harnessing the tourism potential of the region. These activities not only draw adventure enthusiasts but also create avenues for self-employment opportunities for local artisans, handicraftsmen, owners of Stay homes, pony handlers, potters, vloggers, and locally trained youths who can serve as tourist guides. This strategic approach is particularly beneficial for the economically challenged far-flung hilly areas, offering them much-needed business and self-employment prospects, thereby boosting the rural economy and local infrastructure.
The success of the Famber Trek is a testament to the spirit of adventure, unity, and the unyielding determination of both participants and organizers. It is a reflection of the untamed beauty of Kishtwar and the limitless potential for exploration that this region offers.
