Rajouri: A militant was killed while a soldier and a police man sustained injuries in an ongoing encounter that broke out in remote Upper Tuli village of Chassana of Reasis’ Mahore subdivision on Monday, officials said.
Officials said that militants believed to be two in number, were hiding inside a house when they got trapped after which an encounter broke out.
“Security Forces received information that suspicious movement was noticed in a tough mountainous area of Tulli referred to as Upper Tulli falling under Chassana police station,” the official said.
Tulli, the most extreme village of Reasi district, is located close to villages of Rajouri district and the entire area of villages of Rajouri and Reasi districts are considered as tough in terms of topography, vegetation besides absence of roads in many hamlets.
“After receiving information of suspicious movement, Army and Jammu and Kashmir police launched an operation. Entire village was cordoned off following which forces cordoned a house where militants were hiding,” the officials said, adding that members of a family present inside house, which belongs to a police personnel, were safely evacuated after which the house was cordoned from all sides and forces resorted to speculative as well as challenge fire.
“However, there was no response from inside the house,” the officials said. “In evening hours when forces were further tightening the cordon, militants hiding inside the house fired at them which retaliated effectively and a gunfight broke out.” Sources further informed that during the gunfight, one militant was neutralised by forces.
The official sources also said that an encounter is still going on with one or maybe two militants suspected to be hiding inside the house and an exchange of fire is going on.
“In the fire fighting, one police personnel and one army personnel have received injuries but both are stable and out of danger,” he said. Additional DG of police in Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh said that an encounter is going on. He confirmed that one militant has been eliminated so far.
Jammu based defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal also confirmed the killing of one militant and injuries to an army soldier and a police personnel. He also said that operation is going on
