IIM Jammu Orientation Prog of the 3rd Batch of IPM: Day-2 concludes on a promising note

Jammu: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu commenced the second day of the three-day holistic Orientation Program with a peaceful yoga session that focused on the theme, ‘Maximize happiness and Mindfulness”, led by Sahil Mehra, Yoga Guru, at the Canal Road Campus, following which the students departed for the Jagti Campus.
The session was coordinated by Team Anandam, IIM Jammu. Dr. Sarbjit Singh, Chairperson (International Relations), IIM Jammu, presented a brief on the International Student Exchange Program and the intricacies of working in a cross-cultural environment. He elaborated on the ISEP process, guidelines, and the minimum requirements required. Dr. Prakrit Silal, Chairperson (IT), delivered an overview of the IT infrastructure, policies and future plans of IIM Jammu. This was followed by interactive and thought-provoking sessions by industry speakers for the incoming batch. The first industry speaker of the day was Kavita Rana, Sr. DGM & Head HR, Agilus Diagnostics, who elucidated on listening skills, which are essential yet ignored. She stated that listening is the most significant part of communication; however, no formal training is provided for the same. She also emphasized that students must choose to participate in the listening process. The session was coordinated by Dr. Sarbjit Singh,Chairperson, International Relations.
The final session before lunch was conducted by Bipul Chandra, Managing Director, Ducati, who elaborated on general leadership. He stated the most essential trait of a leader is to be modest and humble. Goal setting, vision, upskilling, passion, leadership, and failure were a few critical points that the speaker elaborated on. The session was coordinated by Dr. Prakrit Sillal, Chairperson, IT, IIM Jammu. The post-lunch program commenced with an informative session by Neha Gupta, Director, Deloitte, on the topic “Mergers and Acquisition”. She presented the needs, workings, and processes relevant to M&As. She encouraged the students to be solution-oriented and updated, as this is important to not just M&As but all aspects of the business world. The session was coordinated by Dr. Barnali Chaudhary, Faculty, IIM Jammu. Devarshy R. Ganguly, Head of Marketing at Magic Bricks, presented an interactive session on “Life Lessons for the Journey Ahead” as the final industry speaker of the day. During his presentation, the speaker emphasized entrepreneurial zeal, must-have skills, networking, and LIVE learning. He concluded his invigorating session by advising students to be resilient, adaptable, and collaborative. The session was organized by Dr. Bijoy Rakshit, Faculty, IIM Jammu. Shailesh Lohiya, Librarian IIM Jammu, conducted a session on the Knowledge Management Centre and presented a detailed overview into an array of library facilities, service and available resources. The second day of the orientation programme ended on a positive note.
