Opportune time to Announce Assembly Elections, Statehood to JK: Hakeem

PDF Chief urges Centre to announce CBMs to restore public trust

Srinagar : Maintaining that India was one of the biggest democracies of the world ,Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front ( PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen on Friday urged the incumbent Central Government to announce assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir without further delay .“ Since Center has admitted in Supreme Court that situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved considerably and all the required formalities for holding assembly elections also stands completed , so there should not be any kind of further delay in this regard,“ Hakeem said in a statement issued here on Friday .
In to a statement issued from party headquarters here, Hakeem said that Center should also fulfill its promise to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir before announcing assembly elections adding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ,on the floor of the Parliament , assured that statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir as early as possible . He said restoration of electoral democracy in Jammu and Kashmir was imperative to gain goodwill and trust of the people . He said restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir ,prior to holding assembly election will go a long way in building mutual trust and confidence between center and the people of Jammu and Kashmir . He said people of Jammu and Kashmir want to get rid of bureaucracy which has aggravated their problems many folds.
The PDF chairman has urged the Center too show its seriousness about fulfilling promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Underscoring the significance of holding assembly elections and restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir Hakeem said that the people should not once again feel betrayed with regard to fulfillment of promises made to them from the Center. The prevailing socio politically uncertainty in Jammu and Kashmir was the result of broken promises and betrayals Hakeem said while urging the Center not to repeat the past mistakes . He said people of Jammu and Kashmir have realized futility of the gun culture and were yearning for peace and development adding that Center should whole hog come forward to meet their urged and aspirations above vested political considerations.
