Police freezes, initiates forfeiture proceedings of illegally acquired wealth of Rs 1.25 Cr under NDPS Act in Sopore

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that Police Station Bomai of Police District Sopore while investigating the case FIR No. 26 of 2023 under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Bomai in which one drug trafficker namely Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat S/o Ali Mohammad Bhat R/o Umerabad HMT Srinagar was arrested and found in conscious possession of 350 Bottles of Codeine Phosphate (of 100 ml each), freezed Bank Accounts of said accused person in which huge amount of illegally acquired wealth amounting to Rs. 1,25,06,377.10 (One Crore twenty five lakhs six thousand three hundred seventy seven rupees) was ordered to be freezed/attached and forfeiture proceedings of said illegally acquired property (Bank Balance of Rs. 1.25 Crores) was taken up with the Competent Authority, New Delhi in accordance with the provisions of Chapter VA of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar police said that the property (in the form of bank balance) has been illegally acquired from the income earned through drug trafficking and is of recent origin and does not commensurate with the sources of the income of the accused.
Stating that the said accused person previously was also found to have been involved in case FIR No. 337/2013 under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Parimpora, case FIR No. 92/2020 under section 8/21, 22 & 29 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Ram Munshibagh Srinagar and case FIR No. 121/2015 under section 8/21 NDPS Act of Police Station Sumbal, Police in it’s statement further said that the investigation in the case FIR No. 26 of 2023 under section 8/22 of the NDPS Act of Police Station Bomai is still in progress.
