National Sports Day: Educational Institutions Jammu Division buzz with varied activities

Jammu: Educational Institutions of Jammu division celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm.
Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College, Reasi: NSS Unit and Sports Department of Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College, Reasi collaborated to celebrate National Sports Day under the guidance of Dr. Kulvinder Kour, the Principal of the college. More than 500 students participated in different sports activities from 23rd August to 29th August under the aegis of National Sports Day Week.
On the final day, the function started with the lighting of a traditional lamp to pay tribute to the Indian hockey Legend, Major Dhyan Chand Ji followed by the singing of a solo song by NCC Cadet Akshay Kumar. Shashi Sharma, Physical Director of the college threw light on the life of Major Dhyan Chand Ji and appealed to the students to take inspiration from him in their life journey
.
Government Higher Secondary School Paloura Jammu celebrated Rashtriya Khel Divas with great enthusiasm.
The program started with Flag hoisting by the chief guest, Mohd. Arif Ex International Hockey Player and at present M.D Air India Jammu in presence of guest of honour Balbir Singh Manhas Ex Sarpanch, P.P Singh Hockey Umpire and Principal HSS Paloura, Sunita Chadha.
Sports activities like Tug of War, Sack Race, Lemon Race etc were held on the occasion.
GCOE: Department of Physical Education & Sports of Government College of Education, Jammu celebrated National Sports Day to pay tributes to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The event was organised under the patronage of Prof Aekta Gupta, Principal, GCOE to evoke the spirit of championship.
The event was organised under the leadership of Ramandeep Kralia, Physical Director. Intra College tug of war competitions were organized for the Men and Women and students to inculcate the feeling of true sportsmanship among the students and enhance their physical skills.
Around 100 students participated in the event and at last all the winners were awarded with medals and certificates by Principal Prof. Aekta Gupta and Dean School of Education Dr Zubair Kales.
GDC Sunderbani: Physical Education and Sports department Government Degree College Sunderbani concluded a dynamic weeklong celebration dedicated to the “Fit India Mission “which pays homage to the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
The event aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and an overall healthier lifestyle among students, faculty, and staff members.
The grand finale featured a fun-run, open to the entire community, symbolizing the collective stride towards fitness and vitality. The sight of participants from all walks of life coming together to celebrate the importance of being active was truly heartwarming. The prize distribution ceremony honored individuals and teams who demonstrated exceptional commitment and performance in various categories. Trophies, certificates, and other accolades were presented to winners of sports competitions and special recognition categories.
YS&S: The week long sports activities under the national sports week concluded with the paying of homage to the great hockey legendary Major Dhian Chand on his 118th birthday here at Khel Gaon Nagrota on Tuesday.
Joint Director, Youth Services & Sports, Suram Chand Sharma presided over the concluding day events and presented mementos and certificates to the winners of Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Football & other athletic events on the occasion.
Deputy Director, Planning Ravi Kumar Sharma, Accounts Officer, Sunil Kumar Sharma and DYSSO Sukhdev Raj Sharma & all the staff members of YSS were present.
Similar activities were held in all the Districts at school/zonal level where one lacs sixty five thousands of students participated in different events through the sports week.
GDC Ramgarh: To commemorate National Sports Day 2023, Government Degree College Ramgarh organized a series of activities viz. two sports activities Carrom as indoor and Volleyball as outdoor game and two fun activities, Lemon Race and Langadi Game. These activities were organized by the Sports Committee of the College under able guidance and coordination of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.
A friendly match was played between the students of Sem. 3rd and 5th of the college on the concluding day. The students of the college participated with great zeal, passion and excitement.
Government College for Women Udhampur: National Sports Day 2023 was celebrated at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur, where Department of Sports Organized annual felicitation ceremony to felicitate and recognize the meritorious sports women, who had participated and stood victorious in different levels of sports competition ranging from Intercollegiate, Interuniversity and All India Inter University level tournaments.
Earlier, Head Department of Sports Dr Dinesh in his address briefed the audience that about 75 college students of different streams BA, BSC & Commerce participated this year in Intercollegiate competitions held at university of Jammu, where the college Handball & chess team finished runner-up champion, whereas the college team of kho-kho, basketball and yoga got third place.
Besides, 14 players of the college were selected to represent the University of Jammu in All India Inter-University & Inter-University competitions.
Govt Degree College Udhampur: In continuation to Azadi Ka Amrit kaal celebration, and to make a loud message from College and the Youth for FIT India and Khelo India Campaigns on National Sports Day, and also to blow a bigul against Drugs under Nashamukt Campus for Nashamukt Bharat Abhiyaan, a 2-day Intra-college Knockout Chess and Badminton tournaments were held in GDC Udhampur.
After all preliminary rounds, in Chess the final match of girls was played between Ambica Thakur and Swati, where Swati Clinched the Gold Medal and Ambica had to satisfy with the runner-up Silver. In Boys Chess, Govind Singh blow the trumpet of success with Gold, while Atul Angurana had to be joyous with the runner-up position. In the pre-qualifiers Atul Defeated Joshi, Jagjyot: Arjun, Aashish; Amit, Aksh Crushed Sumit, Rohit; Govind, Romal decimated Dheeraj, In second Round Atul: Ashish, Govind;Aksh, Jagjyot resigned hence Romal didn’t Move to Next Level. The final game of chess was played between Govind and Atul, which Govind won with a Good Margin.
In Badminton Singles Akshay of Sem III Clinched the Winners Gold, and Vansh Dogra had to satiate with the Runner-up Silver, while in Doubles the Opponents of singles Akshay and Vansh teamed up to defeat the duo of Anshul Gupta and Karan Pal. The Players of pre-round were: Avinash, Amit, Akshay, Chaitanya, Vansh, Keshiv, Arun Dev, Joshi Seth,Govind, Aashish, Amit Hansa, Akshay, Vansh, Karan, Rishav, Anshul.
A total number of 100 students participated in the competition in different games.
