Gang of burglars busted in Shopian, stolen property worth lacs also recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has busted a gang of burglars by arresting six accused persons involved in about four burglary cases in Shopian district and also recovered the stolen property worth lakhs from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the Police Station Keegam received various complaints regarding burglary within it’s jurisdiction in recent past and after taking cognizance of the inputs, the SSP Shopian Tanushree constituted a SIT headed by DySP Hqrs Shopian along with SHO PS Shopian, IC Police Post Keegam, ASI Ab Rashid and Head Constable Mohd Hussain Dar of Police Post Keegam to crack these burglary cases, adding therein that during investigation, the police team with the help of technical and human resources identified suspect as Waseem Ahmad Wani S/o Ab Aziz Wani R/o Ganowpora, who in order to evade arrest had left his home and was changing his location frequently, but the Special investigation team acting on specific input, arrested the said suspect and after thorough questioning. Police in it’s statement further said that the said suspect confessed his involvement along with other accomplices namely Nazir Ahmad Malik S/o Ab Rasheed Malik R/o Thairna Keller, Ishfaq Majeed Wani @Isha Dabba S/o Ab Majeed Wani R/o Mughalpora Pulwama, Jamsheed Ahmad Dar S/o Mohammad Sikander Dar R/o Keegam, Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh S/o Gh Rasool Sheikh R/o Argi Check Rajpora Pulwama and Riyaz Ah Wani @Raja S/o late Mohd Akbar Wani R/o Loswani Pulwama in the commission of crime.
Stating that all the accused were arrested and property worth eight lakhs approximately including Gold Jewellery, Copper Utensils, Tiller, Motorcycle, Spray Motor, Geyser and Batteries were recovered from the possession of the said accused, Police in it’s statement further said that the accused namely Nazir Ahmad Malik and Jamsheed Ahmad Dar also disclosed that they committed a burglary in year 2020 regarding which case FIR No 359/2020 stands registered in PS Shopian, adding therein that investigation into the case is underway.
