Srinagar: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the missing case of a senior engineer of the Roads and Buildings department.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Gurmeet Singh, who is posted in Baramulla, has been missing since August 25 evening.
On Sunday police said a SIT led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Headquarters Baramulla has been formed and police has initiated a comprehensive search operation involving State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) , dog squad, drone surveillance, to uncover any potential clues.
Singh, a resident of Kanthbagh Baramulla had attended an official function on Friday and failed to report home. After the family lodged a complaint, a hunt was launched and his car was found on the outskirts of town on Baramulla-Uri road.
Sources said his mobile phone was found in the car and it was in flight mode.
On Sunday, Baramulla Police urged the public to cooperate and assist in any way possible to help locate Engineer Gurmeet Singh.
The distraught family of AEE has sought the assistance of the general public in locating him.
Deputy commissioner Baramulla on Sunday visited the family of missing engineer and ensured all possible help in tracing him.
Meanwhile, the All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has asked the LG administration to redouble its efforts in tracing out the missing Sikh engineer.
In a statement APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina alleged that half-hearted steps have been taken by the administration in tracing out the missing Sikh engineer.
“It is imperative that serious efforts are taken to find out the missing engineer. So far the administration has failed to satiate the feelings of the family of Engineer Gurmeet and his family members are worried about his safety,” said Raina.
The APSCC Chairman has shot a letter to Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha asking him to direct the concerned officials to pull up the socks in tracing out the missing Sikh engineer.
