DC Poonch chairs District Level NCORD meeting to review anti- Drug abuse measures

Poonch: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary on Monday chaired the district level NCORD meeting to devise strategies to combat menace of drugs and review the status of drug de-addiction in the district.
At the onset, the action taken to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district and directions passed in previous meetings were discussed.
During the meeting, the members of the Committee briefed the DC about the latest report in the district regarding action taken against drug addiction and drug trafficking.
The DC directed the Health Departments to constitute a special Joint team to conduct random testing of vulnerable groups including students in Educational institutions.
The Tehsildars were directed to conduct a training program for members from every tehsil in coordination with the Social Welfare department within three days.
The Chief Education Officer and Principals of Degree colleges were instructed to monitor the students regularly and also conduct random checking using Breathe Analysers and other techniques. Further, Degree Colleges were asked to conduct training programs of Panchayat level members in the presence of concerned SHO.
Further, all Tehsil level committees were asked to conduct regular meetings, Identify drug addicts and peddlers in their respective areas and organize counselling of Drug addicts and their family members. The DC also asked the committee members to seek help of Religious leaders in combating this menace.
The DC also emphasised on effective functioning of Addiction Treatment Facility Centres to fight against drug addiction and mitigate the sufferings of the drugs affected persons. He also laid trust on ensuring proper counselling and rehabilitation for individuals struggling with addiction.
The line Departments including Enforcement agencies were asked to ensure better coordination in eradicating the menace of drug trafficking and abuse.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik, Police Representatives, PO ICDS, Khalid Hussain Wafa, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Zahir Ahmed Kaifi, District Social Welfare Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Principal Degree College Poonch, Dr.Jasbir Singh, Principal Degree College Surankote, Prof.Rani Mughal, Principal Degree College Mendhar besides all tehsildars and concerned officers were present.
