Madrid: The Emergency and Security Coordination Center of the Canary Islands said on Saturday that the authorities would be forced to evacuate over 26,000 people due to a wildfire on the island of Tenerife.
“According to preliminary estimates obtained as a result of the census, the number of evacuees may exceed 26,000 people,” the agency said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
On Saturday, the government of the Canary Islands said that a forest fire on Tenerife spread to 5,000 hectares (12,355 acres) and was still out of control. In addition, the government has reportedly decided to deploy 17 planes to combat the spread of the fire. Meanwhile, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced his visit to the fire-ravaged island on Monday.
