Tourism and horticulture are the two such key sectors of economy which if exploited for the purposes of income and employment generation will most probably take Jammu & Kashmir to new horizons of development and prosperity.
The Independence Day address of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar this year was contrary to what the Governors and Chief Ministers of erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state used to say about their role on peace and development in Jammu & Kashmir. The promise of the Lt Governor to bring smiles to the faces of the people of Jammu & Kashmir shows his commitment to rebuild Jammu & Kashmir after decades of instability, chaos and confusion .While the unprecedented rise in tourist footfall has brought smiles to the stakeholders of tourism sector in Jammu & Kashmir, the Lt Governor in yet another attempt to keep his promise announced that negative travel advisories imposed by some countries on visiting Jammu & Kashmir long back would go soon. Notably the tourist footfall in Jammu Kashmir has already crossed the magic figure of 1 Crore arrivals this year and significantly arrivals from the foreign countries too are encouraging as claimed by the tourism department in it’s latest statement on tourist arrivals last month. Reference to the conduct of G20 summit in Srinagar this year by Lt Governor in his Independence Day address assumes significance keeping in view the fact that this international event (G20 meet) was organised with the main motive of showcasing Jammu & Kashmir tourism from an International platform. In fact tourism and horticulture are the two such key sectors of economy which if exploited for the purposes of income and employment generation will most probably take Jammu & Kashmir to new horizons of development and prosperity in coming years. As the focus of the Government is on boosting tourism and other key sectors of economy, the completion of new highways including Jammu-Srinagar highway and Udhampur-Baramulla train track by the end of the current financial year or at the beginning of the first quarter of next financial year as promised by Lt Governor would further ease the travel of tourists and other travelers from several parts of the country to Jammu & Kashmir.

“With a commitment to bring smiles to the faces of people of Jammu & Kashmir the Lt Governor in his this year’s Independence Day address has unveiled his mission of working on an agenda of public welfare for a bright future of the coming generations in Jammu & Kashmir”.

Not only development and delivery of public services but even reach out to the people is accorded the highest priority by the Lt Governor himself. Sending out a message that Government is keen to restore the confidence of people in it’s decisions even on the religious issues the Lt Governor this year himself joined the Muharram procession. By joining the Muharram Procession after three decades Lt Governor by all standards understandabilities showed generosity to convey a message to the people of Jammu & Kashmir that era of animosities is over. With a commitment to bring smiles to the faces of people of Jammu & Kashmir the Lt Governor in his this year’s Independence Day address has unveiled his mission of working on an agenda of public welfare for a bright future of the coming generations in Jammu & Kashmir.
