Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that in a joint operation with Army in Baramulla Police on Thursday busted a militant module by arresting three militant associates owing allegiance LeT militant outfit and also recovered incriminating materials, arms and ammunition from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that during joint patrolling a joint team of Baramulla Police and Army (16 SIKHLI) noticed a suspicious person who attempted to flee upon spotting the patrolling party but was apprehended tactfully and also arrested, adding therein that the said militant associate was identified as Showkat Ali Awan S/o Abdul Karim Awan R/;o Churunda Uri. Police in its statement further said that during search, 2 grenades were recovered from the possession of the above named accused who was later shifted to police station where he was put under sustained questioning. Stating that during questioning, the said accused disclosed the names of his accomplices as Ahmad Din S/o Shukur Din and Mohammad Sadeeq Khatana S/o Umer Din, both residents of Churunda Uri, who were subsequently arrested , Police in it’s statement further said on the disclosure of these two militant associates two grenades, one Chinese Pistol, one Pistol Magazine, four live rounds and other incriminating materials were recovered. Police in its above statement further said that the said militant associates were involved in cross border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan based militant handlers and further it’s distribution to LeT militants for carrying out militancy related activities. In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement Police said that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Uri and further investigation into the case have been initiated.
