Reasi: To mark the commencement of “Mari Mati Mera Desh” campaign under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, District Administration Reasi on Wednesday launched a mega cleanliness and beautification drive in Reasi Township.
The cleanliness drive started from the District Administrative Complex to Rishi Kumar Koushal Chowk via Bus Stand, Tempo Stand Reasi and Bhimgarh Fort. The drive was held under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner Babila Rakwal.
District Officers and officials from all the Departments collected waste including plastic, wrappers and polythene etc. The waste collected was later disposed of by Municipal Council Reasi. During the said drive, the officers and officials motivated the street vendors and shopkeepers to install Dust Bins in front of their shops to collect the waste generated so that the workers can pick up and dispose of it regularly.
To extend the green cover and enhance the beautification, a Plantation drive and landscaping was carried out in and around Bhim Garh Fort in collaboration with the Forest and Floriculture department.
Speaking on the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi Abdul Star said that the aim of such programmes and drives is to generate awareness and bring about behavioral change among the people regarding the importance of swacchta and plantations. He emphasized the role of trees in protection of the environment and urged all stakeholders including the general public to plant more and more trees not only during “Mari Maati Mera Desh” campaign but also to convert barren lands into green patches.
