Srinagar: Congress leader Prof Saifuddin Soz Tuesday said that a host of senior leaders of the BJP have been awkwardly celebrating abrogation of the Article 370 of the constitution of India.
“They are also very arrogantly counting the advantages of the abrogation of this Statute. The people of Jammu and Kashmir know that the statute had come up as an agreement between the then-political leadership of the state and the Union of India. This agreement had also been ratified by the J&K Constituent Assembly and it had been placed on the records of the Lok Sabha,” Soz said.
He said the mutual understanding was that both parties would recognize the fact that it was a commitment to the J&K people that the Union would all along appreciate that the Article was itself a guarantee to the people of Jammu and Kashmir that their internal autonomy would be respected.
“The Union of India has committed a breach of trust by abrogating it, unilaterally. Now, small and big leaders of the BJP are uselessly crying themselves hoarse by counting the imaginary advantages through the abrogation of this article.”
Soz said that the J&K people are justified in pinning their hopes on the Supreme Court of India. The people are also conscious of the fact that the ‘Peoples’ Court’ is always available to them.
