Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested five drug smugglers in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party led by Incharge Police Post Babareshi under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Imtiyaz Ahmad at a checkpoint established at Salamdeedar Babareshi intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05K-1768 ridden by one person and during search recovered 440 grams of Poppy Straw and 182 grams of Poppy Powder like substance were recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Imtiyaz Salim Khan S/o Sarandaz Khan R/o Tangwari Bala who was later arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody and more the motorcycle used in the commission of crime was also been seized.
Police in it’s statement further said that in a similarly action a police party under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg assisted by SHO Police Station Tangmarg during naka checking at Solinda Tangmarg intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05K-5490 with four persons on board who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully. Police in it’s statement further said that during search, 370 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Irshad Ahmad Ganie S/o Ab Jabbar, Dawood Ahmad Sofi S/o Gh Hassan, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat S/o Gh Ahmad Bhat & Suhail Ahmad Sofi S/o Gh Hassan, all residents of Solinda Tangmarg who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations and further course of investigation into the cases too was initiated, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
