Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir Police on Saturday said that it has arrested a drug smuggler in Baramulla and recovered contraband substance from his possession. Besides, police destroyed wild Cannabis in Bandipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party led by SHO Police Station Pattan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohd Nawaz at a checkpoint established at Mehmoodpora Pattan intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party.
During the search, 14Kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Hilal Ahmad Lone son of Mohammad Assadullah Lone resident of Mehmoodpora Pattan. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, police it’s above referred statement said, adding therein that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pattan and investigation has been initiated.
Stating that Police in Bandipora along with the Excise Department carried out a wild Cannabis destruction drive from Main Market Nadikhai Sumbal to Markundal Chowk and its adjacent areas , Police in it’s statement further said that it destroyed wild Cannabis cultivation spread over 9 Kanals of land, adding therein that people in these areas hailed the efforts of the Police.
Asking the people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood, Police warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, adding therein that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken to show that efforts are on to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
