Budgam: Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (J&K PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has expressed serious concern about reports of outbreak of Jaundice disease in Budgam outskirts which claimed life of an 18 years young boy Abid salam Khan in Riayar Beerwa.
He has urged the district administraion to act swiftly and reactivate the concerned PHE and health authorities to control further spread of the Jaundice disease in the area adding that the main cause of the spread of life threatening Jaundice disease was attributed to supply of untreated and unfiltered drinking water to the people in the area.
In a statement issued on Friday ,Hakeem while expressing his grief and sorrow over the death of Abid Salam Khan of Riayar Beerwa due to Jaundice , has urged the PHE Budgam to supply only treated filtered drinking water to the people in the areas . He said modern water filtration plants should be constructed with all the water supply schemes running in various areas of district Budgam under the ongoing Jal Jeewan Mission so that incidences of Jaundice like waterborn diseases could be curbed adequately, adding that “water supply network in most of the kandi areas of Budgam district was outdated as the existing pipe lines laid decades ago were rusted and broken . “ Hakeem in his statement further more said that need of the hour was to replace such pipelines under JJM on emergency basis He has urged the Chief Medical Officer Budgam to supply chlorine tablets to the inhabitants of Riayaar Beerwa immediately to check further outbreak of Jaundice disease in the area. He said main cause of most of the waterborne disease was consumption of untreated drinking water adding that government should utilize vast funds available under JJM , not only for expanding water supply lines but for construction of water filtration plants also ,wherever needed. “Only then objective of ambitious JJM could be achieved ,“ PDF Chief maintained adding that each drinking water supply scheme shall essentially have a water treatment plant earmarked with it .
