Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has registered 198 cases under NDPS act, arrested 305 drug peddlers and attached property of drug smugglers worth lacs during the current year in district Baramulla. Moreover, 2 bank accounts of a notorious drug peddler have been freezed in Bandipora, besides, Police carried out a bung destruction drive in Bandipora.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that it has arrested 305 drug smugglers including 45 most wanted drug smugglers , adding therein that 35 habitual drug peddlers have been booked under PIT-NDPS/PSA, besides recovery of contraband substances worth crores (value of contraband in black market). Police in its statement further said that it has attached properties worth 68.05 lacs of drug smugglers which includes 2 houses, 2 vehicles & cash amount of 41.72 lacs in Pattan, Kreeri and Kamalkote areas of Baramulla district.
“Meanwhile in Bandipora, Police have frozen two bank accounts having savings of Rs 23,174 belonging to a notorious drug peddler namely Irshad Ahmad Wani S/o Habib Ullah Wani R/o Bangar Mohalla Hajin under NDPS Act”, reads the above referred Police Statement, adding that “ the said savings were illegally acquired through the sale of narcotic drugs”.
Police in its statement further said that it along with Excise Department has carried out Bhung destruction drive in village Buthoo and it’s adjacent areas in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bandipora and destroyed Bhung cultivation on three Kanals of forest land.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
