Tourism in Uri and Nambla Waterfall Festival

Kashmir…..the mesmerizing land , a place renowned for its breathtaking beauty and enchanting landscapes. Nestled in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, Kashmir is often referred to as “Paradise on Earth.” Kashmir’s beauty is unrivaled, with its diverse geographical features that include majestic snow-capped mountains, serene valleys, pristine lakes, and lush green meadows. The mighty Himalayas stand tall as a protective backdrop, adding to the region’s allure. Throughout the year, the landscape transforms into different enchanting scenes, each captivating in its own way. During spring, the valley comes alive with a riot of colors as blossoms of tulips, saffron, cherry, and apple trees paint the surroundings in vibrant hues. The Dal Lake, located in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is a captivating sight with its floating gardens, traditional houseboats, and reflections of the surrounding Zabarwan mountain range. As the seasons change and winter arrives, the valley is blanketed in a pristine layer of snow, turning it into a winter wonderland. The famous ski resorts in Gulmarg attract adventure seekers from around the world, offering thrilling skiing and snowboarding experiences amidst the breathtaking Himalayan landscape. Kashmir’s beauty is not just confined to its landscapes; it also lies in the warm hospitality and rich culture of its people. The region boasts a diverse heritage. This cultural tapestry is reflected in the architecture, cuisine, music, and festivals celebrated with great enthusiasm. However, it is essential to acknowledge that this beautiful land of Kashmir has faced various challenges, but despite this, the indomitable spirit of its people and the timeless beauty of its landscape continue to capture the hearts of travelers from across the globe.
Uri is one among such beautiful places of Kashmir located in northern most district of Baramulla. The Uri Subdivision has a good potential for tourism as it has beautiful plains, mountainous terrain, border tourism and beautiful fresh water bodies. Kashmir’s springs and waterfalls add another layer of enchantment to its already captivating landscape. The region is blessed with numerous natural water sources that emerge from the foothills of the Himalayas, creating a mesmerizing spectacle for visitors.

From the left side of the waterfall is an up hill trek which goes towards the glacier which is main source of waterfall at an estimated distance of 1 to 2 km by foot from waterfall.

Waterfall Nambla which showers at an estimated height of 250 to 300 feet is worth to watch. The waterfall is located in the upper belt of Nambla village one of the most populous village of Uri Subdivision. The picturesque landscape surrounding the waterfalls adds to their allure.Nambla Waterfall is a majestic sight, especially during the spring season when the melting snow from the nearby mountains feeds it. The waterfall, surrounded by lush greenery, can be a popular picnic spot. Nambla Waterfall is a hidden gem in Kashmir. The charming waterfall offers a serene and peaceful ambiance, away from the usual tourist crowds. These waterfall not only provide a source of freshwater for the region but also offer an opportunity for travellers to immerse themselves in the natural beauty and tranquillity that Kashmir is so well-known for. Exploring these hidden gems adds an element of adventure to any trip to the “Paradise on Earth. An event under the banner of Nambla Waterfall Festival was organised on 29 & 30th July 2023 by the locals of Nambla especially a group of volunteers in collaboration with the Indian Army. Tents and temporary canteens were installed for the people visiting there. Horse ride facilities were also made available besides a temporary road was also constructed by the group of volunteers approaching waterfall. The place is quite good for trekking and night camps. The Waterfall which Is located in the upper belt of the village is one of the important places which attract the tourist more.. The waves of water falling from such a height are making the place quite cool and people low to sit in the lap of waterfall to spend some time there with nature. The place is surrounded by beautiful pine trees and other plants. From the left side of the waterfall is an up hill trekk which goes towards the glacier which is main source of waterfall at an estimated distance of 1 to 2 km by foot from waterfall. The initiative of organising this event will pave the way for uplifting tourism in the locality which will ultimately help in boasting the economy of the area. Various such camps and tourism awareness initiatives were also organised in the recent past in order to boast the local tourism. The locals hope that the concerned authorities and departments will pay their kind attention to these local tourist destinations in order to get them on the tourist map.
