Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has freezed and seized an amount of Rs. 16.33 lacs of a drug Smuggler in Baramulla.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that Baramulla Police led by SDPO Uri Shokat Ali assisted by SHO Police Station Uri freezed bank accounts and seized cash to the tune of Rs. 16.33 lacs of a drug Smuggler identified as Maqsood Ahmad Bhatti S/o Bagh Ali Bhatti R/o Madiyan Kamalkote after obtaining legal sanction from competent authorities. Police in it’s statement further said that the cash was linked to case FIR No. 22/2023 u/s 8/21, 27 NDPS Act of Police Station Uri and the investigation proved that the said movable property in the form of cash was raised/ used for illicit trafficking by the drug Smuggler.
Police in it’s above quoted statement further said that cash to the tune of Rs. 14.76 lacs was recovered from the said drug smuggler at the time of NDPS case registration and amount to the tune of Rs. 1.56 lacs which was lying in his bank accounts was freezed after receiving orders from competent authorities.
Police in its statement furthermore said that by targeting and freezing the illegal assets of drug peddlers/smugglers involved in the organized illegal narco trade, Police have dealt a severe blow to their criminal activities and deprived these criminals of the proceeds derived from drug trafficking .
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police said that the people have appreciated the action taken by it for safeguarding them from the devastating effects of drug abuse and trafficking.
