Khansahib: Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (J&K PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen on Monday asked his party caders to gear up for upcoming Local Bodies elections in the Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here on Monday Hakeem said “ Since the Jammu And Kashmir Panchayats and Municipalities have completed their 5 year term and the State Election Commission (SEC) too has set into motion preparations for local bodies elections by revising the electoral rolls , need of the hour was to gear up for electing public representtives of thier choice, Hakeem said while addressing party workers of Khansahib on Monday. He said Panchayat Elections are due in October-November this year, in Jammu and Kashmir adding that “Legally, terms of the Panchayats will expire on January 9, 2024 and as per the Panchayati Raj Act, process for Panchayat polls has to be completed a month ahead of expiry of their term which comes out at December 9, 2023. He urged the party workers to contest upcoming Local Bodies and Panchayat elections with full strength and defeat dubious political parties . He asked the workers to reach out to people at thier door steps to educate them about machination of political parties that thrive on emotional exploitation by dividing the communities on religion ,regional and ethenic basis. “ It was high time to strengthen secular idelogy and defeat fringe elements that were determined to cling to power by exploiting sentiments of the people on religion and regional lines ,Hakeem Yaseen said adding that the people of Jammu and kashmir were true secular by conviction and believe in a pluristic society where there was no hatred but brotherhood and communal harmony.
Moreover, the PDF Chairman urged party functionaries to expand the party’s connect with people at the grassroots level and help them to redress thier day to day problems. He said winning of local bodies elections with thumping majority was imperative to serve the people in a befitting manner and initiate socio- economic cum developmental plans in thier respective areas as per the the basic needs and priorities at the ground level . He said direct focus should be on the improving living standard of people through the democratic process of elections . He said burgeoning unemployment problem , ruthless imposition of taxes on common people , skyrocketing prices of essential commodities , non availability of ration at govt. stores , and in- ordinate delay in regularization of daily wagers ,need based workers ,HDF and contractual employees were the main issues that were eating vitals of the society .“ Silence on the part of administration towards addressing the burning problems of the common people was most concerning, PDF Chairman said while urging the workers to fight for restoration of usurbed democratic and constitutional rights.
