GCW Udhampur hosts National webinar on medicinal plants for health, well being

Udhampur: Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government College for Women Udhampur, in collaboration with Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu on Monday organised a National webinar on the topic, “Medicinal Plants for Health and Wellbeing” under Azadi ka Amrit Mahatosav and Ayush-Arogya Mahotsav.
Principal of the host college, Prof. Anjali Mahajan was the chief guest on the occasion. In her address, Prof. Anjali Mahajan congratulated and lauded the organisers for organising such a wonderful webinar on this highly important subject.
“Our life is directly dependent on plants whether for food or medicines. Nowadays people start moving towards herbal medicines as they are cost effective and have fewer side effects,” she added.
Dr. Arun Gupta, Medical Officer AYUSH, Govt Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu was the resource person. He delivered a brainstorming online lecture on Medicinal Plants for Health and Wellbeing. He threw light on health and well being and how plant based medicines play an important role in maintaining the same. He discussed in detail the bioactive components, botanical, local as well as common names of some important medicinal plants like Atropa, Datura, Opium, Brahmi, Giloy etc.
Besides, he also spoke about healthy foods, crude part extracts, neutraceuticals, pharmaceutical auxiliary products like binding agents (gum acacia) etc. Dr. Arun also elaborated the use of plants in treating various ailments like nervous disorders, gastro-intestinal problems, respiratory problems, urinary and kidney related problems, menstrual disorders, liver and heart related complications etc. The session culminated with a healthy discussion.
The lecture was attended by about 80 persons from various colleges/Universities of J&K and other states.
Dr. Suresh Kumar, Associate Professor and Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Professor from HP University, Shimla, Dr. Vertika Jain, Assistant Professor, Bhavika Kunwar, and Seema Naga, Research Scholar, Govt. Meera Girls College, Udaipur, Rajsthan, Dr. Rajkumar Pandurang Medsinge, Assistant Professor from Miraj Mahavidyalaya, Miraj, Maharashtra, Pooja Kumari, Phd. scholar from Soban Singh Jeena university, Almora, Uttrakhand, Vivek, Student from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher learning, Chennai were some prominent participants from outside J&K. E-certificates were given to all the participants.
Earlier, Dr. Anita Sharma, Convenor, IQAC presented a formal welcome address. Dr. Amit Kumar conducted the proceedings of the Webinar and Dr. Sumit Sharma presented the formal vote of thanks.

Manhas, Dr. Rahul Kait, Dr. Mool Raj, Dr. Ramkrisham, Dr. Kewal Kumar, Prof. Tania Akhter, Prof. Sumita Rao, Prof. Suneel Singh Barheyan, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Dr. Shaveta Sharma, Arun Gupta, Dr. Kamal Deep Kour, Prof. Rajinder Singh, Prof. Tania Mahajan, Dr. Sanjay Kumar and Prof. Yash Kumar were among others who graced the event with their online presence.
