Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara and Bandipora and also recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that in Handwara, a police party of Police Station Qalamabad at a checkpoint established at Shartgund Bala, intercepted two suspicious persons who attempted to evade the police party but was apprehended tactfully. Stating that the said accused were identified as Zayeem Ahmad Ganie S/o Gh Mohd R/o Haril and Mohd Hussain Bhat S/o Ab Gafar R/o Maratgam, Police in it’s statement further said that during search, 70gms of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the above named accused who were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in a similar action at Bandipora, a police party of Police Statoon Pethkote at a checkpoint established at Pazalpora Bandipora, intercepted and arrested a drug peddler identified as Ashiq Hussain Bhat S/o Gh Rasool Bhat R/o Nowpora Ward No.01 Bandipora, adding therein that during search, psychotropic substance (Tramadol & Alprazolam capsules) was recovered from the possession of the said accused who were shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Stating that the police had registered cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above referred statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood butwarned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
