Muharram clash: Delhi Police file three cases

New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered three separate cases in connection with Saturday’s violence in which some miscreants taking part in Muharram processions allegedly became unruly, clashed with police and started stone pelting in Delhi’s Nangloi area, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the incident took place at Nangloi during muharram processions on Saturday, during the clash, six police personnel and six volunteers including five women volunteers were injured while they were trying to contain the situation.

The police said that it has filed three FIRs on Sunday, in the first FIR has been booked under sections 147,148,149,151,152,153,186,323,324,332,353,307,427 IPC and Section 3 & 4 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act at Nangloi Police Station. The second case has been filed under sections 147,148,149,151,152,153,186,323,332,353,427 IPC and Section 3 & 4 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, at Nangloi Police Station and third case has been registered under sections 147,148,149,151,152,186,323,332,353,427 IPC and Section 3 & 4 of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, at Nangloi Police Station, a senior police official said.

The probe is underway and several teams have been constituted to identify the perpetrators and initiate legal action against them, a senior police official said.

On Saturday, during Moharram, some Tazia processions entered the area of Nangloi Police Station on main Rohtak Road and tried to deviate the route mutually decided upon in the coordination meeting with Taziadaran in preparation for Muharram, claimed police.

The police tried to convince them to stick to the pre-decided route and proceed to the designated place while most of them cooperated, a few miscreants became unruly and started stone pelting, claimed Delhi Police.
