Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested five gamblers in Sopore and also seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued from zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on specific inputs about gambling activities at Ningli Nursery, a police party of Police Station Tarzoo raided the specific spot and arrested five gamblers, who tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully. Police in it’s statement further said that the accused were identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Malla S/o Ghulam Nabi and Javaid Ahmad Khanday S/o Ghulam Mohiudin, both residents of Mahrajpora Sopore, Abdul Rashid Malik S/o Muhammad Sultan R/o Dogliteng Sopore, Shahzad Ahmad Shah S/o Nazir Ahmad and Sajad Ahmad Parray S/o Ghulam Muhammad, both residents of Tulibal Sopore.
Stating that stake money of Rs 22,500/- and playing cards were also recovered from the possession of the accused who were shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Police in it’s statement further said that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Tarzoo and further investigation was initiated into the case.
In the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement police said that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
