Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has arrested a drug smuggler in Baramulla and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that a police party led by SHO Police Station Uri under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shokat Ali at a checkpoint established at Salamabad Uri intercepted a motorcycle (without registration) ridden by one person, who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully. Police in it’s statement further said that during search, 65 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused identified as Israr Ahmad Mughal S/o Nisar Ahmad R/o Salamabad Uri who was immediately arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, adding therein that the motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Stating that the police has later accordingly registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Uri and initiated further investigation into the case, Police in the concluding para of it’s above quoted statement appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood but warned that persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
