Day 4 of IIM Jammu’s Orientation Prog witnesses informative session with practical insights

Jammu: The Day 4 of orientation program at IIM Jammu kickstarted with lot of enthusiasm. Students practiced yoga in the morning with Shree Sahil Mehra, Yoga Guru. The yoga sessions were coordinated by Team Anandam, IIM Jammu
Students eagerly awaited to hear the address of Lt. Gen. Sandeep Jain, Corps Commander. He structured his talk from the points of view of a parent, an experienced person, and being a senior army officer. He insisted on the importance of “AatmaNirbharBharat” and concluded his talk by briefing us on the necessity of strategic autonomy with citing practical examples. The session was coordinated by Dr. M. Vijay Prabhakar and Dr. Pratik Maheshwari, faculty, IIM Jammu.
Going forward, Anshul Garg, CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) J&K spoke on the title ‘Management- A practitioner’s Lens’. He illustrated the infinite potential and will power India possesses through the pictures of first ever rocket and satellite transported by Indian scientists through cycle and bullock cart. He went on explaining the importance of managing a team, stakeholder to reach full potential. He concluded his talk by explaining the virtues of managing one’s internal self through following a routine and managing mental and physical health through yoga and spirituality. The session was coordinated by Dr. Sarbjit Singh and Dr. Sundar R., faculty, IIM Jammu. The session of Anshul Garg was also graced by Prof. B.S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu
Moving forward was Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Academics; IIM Jammu addressed the students of the institution on the topic ‘Teaching through case studies. He enlightened the students with his knowledge-based session focusing on what is case study all, its types, and the benefits of a case study analysis. Highlighting the importance of learning concepts in a realistic context, Prof. Ali urged the students to be active, inquisitive, creative, and collaborative.
Leading a highly interactive discussion on ‘Harnessing the Power of Marketing for Business Growth’, Nikhil Davda Senior General Manager (Head Marketing & Product), Mahindra Life space Developers took everyone on a nostalgic journey by recalling popular advertisements and campaigns and discussing the marketing strategies and stories behind them. Davda encouraged the students to innovate already used media options, discovering new cost-effective media and timing one’s connection right to stand out amidst cluttered market platfor The session was coordinated by Dr. Baljeet Singh and Dr. Sudeep Das, faculty, IIM Jammu.
The final session was presented by Vishal Thakur, Deputy VP HR, Tata Capital, on the title ‘What to do beyond MBA’. He shared his personal life experience and stressed the importance of having an alternate passion or activity apart from a regular job, which necessarily doesn’t pay money but rather provides solace and fulfillment in life. Secondly, through the history of the Ramayana, he drew parallels to summer internships to emphasise the importance of giving your best during those two months. Finally, he concluded by quoting that “Life is nonlinear after MBA’ and advised the students to embrace it with an open mind.
The session was coordinated by Dr. Manu Bansal and Dr. Praveen Vijaya Raj P, faculty, IIM Jammu.
