Kawhar Villagers Up In Arms Against Alleged Use of Sub- Standard Material in PMGSY Road Upgradation

Baramulla : Kawhar village residents are up in arms against PMGSY department for its engineers allegedly using substandard materials and engaging in corrupt practices
during the ongoing upgradation of the Kawhar Payeen-Malpora road under the Pehliharan Wansiran project.

The road, which serves as a crucial link from Malpora to Kawhar, has become a symbol of mismanagement and negligence, sparking outrage among the local population.

The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme was designed to improve road connectivity in rural areas, but it has come under scrutiny due to the alleged misconduct of officials assigned to the project. Sources claim that some engineers have been using substandard materials in road construction to benefit financially, ignoring the safety and quality standards required for such crucial infrastructure.

According to reports, the road from Pehliharan to Kawhar Payeen, an integral part of the PMGSY project, is being constructed with subpar materials, raising serious concerns about its durability and longevity. The use of poor-quality materials coupled with the lack of safety bunds and protection walls in Kawhar Payeen has added to the frustration of the local community, who heavily rely on the road for their daily transportation needs.

Residents of Kawhar village expressed their disappointment in the government officials involved in the project, as the very purpose of the PMGSY scheme seems to have been defeated due to the alleged corruption and negligence. The road, which should have been a lifeline for thousands of people in Narwav, has become a source of distress, posing risks to travelers and hindering socio-economic development in the region.

When the villagers attempted to raise their concerns with the PMGSY engineers, they claim their pleas were met with indifference. Instead of addressing the issues raised, the engineers allegedly prioritized the construction of protection walls for some favored families along the residential boundaries, further fueling suspicions of favoritism and corruption.

In response to the escalating situation, the locals have made a fervent appeal to the Governor administration and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla to intervene and conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged malpractices. They demand justice, transparency, and accountability for those responsible for the mismanagement of the PMGSY project.

The Governor administration and Deputy Commissioner Baramulla have assured the community that their grievances will be taken seriously, and a comprehensive inquiry will be initiated. They have emphasized their commitment to upholding the integrity of public projects and ensuring that schemes like PMGSY truly serve the intended purpose of enhancing rural connectivity and improving the lives of citizens.
