Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has destroyed a wild bhang in Awantipora and Bandipora districts.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in sub-division Awantipora, a joint team comprising of Police Station Awantipora alongwith officials of Revenue Department, irrigation & flood control department and MC Awantipora headed by SDPO Awantipora Mumtaz Ali Bhatti along with Tehsildar Awantipora carried a special drive and destroyed wild bhang at Larkipora in the jurisdiction of Police Station Awantipora. Police said that during the drive, huge quantity of wild bhang spread over 300 Kanals of land was destroyed.
Police in its above statement said that in a similar action at sub–Division Tral, a joint team comprising of Police Station Tral alongwith officials of Revenue Department and MC Tral headed by SHO PS Tral launched a special drive at Kunjbal and Gamraj in the jurisdiction of Police Station Tral and during the drive, huge quantity of wild weed bhang spread over 11 kanals of land was destroyed.
Police in its statement further added that in Bandipora district, a Police party of PP Nowgam led by Incharge Police Post Nowgam in collaboration with Excise Dept. carried out a Cannabis destruction drive in Nowgam Sumbal and destroyed Cannabis cultivation in different villages of Nowgam.
In the concluding para of the above quoted statement police said that the people of these areas widely appreciated the action taken by the it and assured their full cooperation in future to eradicate the drug menace from the society. Police on this occasion appealed people to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood and warned that people found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall strictly be dealt as per law.
